Know About Antifreeze and Its Various Uses
Antifreeze products are used widely in colder regions for the purpose of protecting the unit from freezing damage. It is known to us that when water turns into ice it is very damaging and at most times the things burst causing great damage both to property and lives. So, most of the companies and individuals prefer using antifreeze. Antifreeze is a heat transfer liquid. It is widely used for many purposes such as in solar water heaters, HAVC chillers, motor vehicles, heavy equipments, etc.
Certain chemical elements when added to water, reduces its freezing point so that it can remain in liquid state even at the lowest temperature. These chemicals help the unit to hold this minimum temperature and thus helpful in protecting the unit from corrosion.
Antifreeze not only helps in freezing point when mixed with water but also with the boiling point. Thus, it can also be called as anti-boil or coolant. In hot countries, it is widely used as coolant in car engines as it works well as a heat transfer fluid.
Ethylene glycol is one of the most commonly used antifreeze. Being a water-based solution, ethylene glycol works as a great heat transfer fluid. When the temperature goes below freezing point say 0 degree Celsius, it is used as a heat transfer fluid. Thus, most commonly, it is used in machines and cars where the unit works by a water-cooled engine.
One more important thing you need to know about ethylene glycol is that it is not safe to use this type of cooling and heating agent while operating food processing unit. The reason behind that is because if there is any chance of leaking, it can be dangerous as it is poisonous. So when operating food processing equipment, it is always advisable to use another antifreeze element product such as propylene glycol.
Ethylene glycol being an organic compound is mostly used in cars and machinery as well as in air conditioners and liquid cooled computers. Because of its low freezing point, it has high resistance against freezing.
Ethylene glycol or antifreeze has many different uses but when people hear the word freeze they only think of cold, whereas it can be used for both hot and cold units.
