2011 Chevy Cruze

Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently rated the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze as “Good” in front, side, rear and rollover crash tests. A rating of “Good” is the highest possible rating, making the Cruze a 2011 Top Safety Pick.

“The new Cruze was clearly engineered from the ground up to meet the highest standards in safety performance,” said IIHS President Adrian Lund. The Top Safety Pick award means that buyers of the Cruze will know they’re getting state-of-the-art protection in the most common kinds of crashes.

Unlike any other vehicle in its Class, the Cruze has StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control, anti-lock brakes, Panic Brake Assist and Enhanced Smart Pedal/Brake Override as standard safety features.

The Cruze is also the first car in its class with 10 standard air bags. These air bags include dual-stage frontal air bags, seat-mounted side-impact air bags and head curtain side air bags in the front and outboard rear seating positions and front knee air bags.

“The IIHS Top Safety Pick Award builds on the already strong global safety reputation of the Cruze,” said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing. “Cruze delivers the level of comfort, quality and safety that customers expect in larger, more upscale vehicles with the fuel economy of a compact.”

The 2011 Chevy Malibu is considered a top safety pick as well. Standard safety features include four-wheel anti-lock braking systems with automatic crash response technology. All models are equipped with six airbags and electronic stability control systems. Special considerations are made for children. Air bag sensing systems help to protect air bag impact to children and infants riding in the back seats in secured booster seating. Additionally, the progressive crush front body structure is an added protective measure. The Chevy Malibu’s greatest safety feature is the life preserving OnStar technology. Highly regarded in the auto industry, Onstar provides roadside assistance, emergency services, crash response, stolen vehicle assistance, vehicle diagnostics, and a number of other owner protections.
